- Insurance cards or forms and any required co-payment for services.
- Eyeglasses or contact lens container (if you wear contacts).
- Hearing aid(s).
Please wear loose, comfortable clothing, and low-heeled shoes so it is easier to dress following surgery.
Once you have registered, a nurse will escort you into the preoperative area where your pulse, temperature, respiration, and blood pressure will be taken. You will be asked to change into a gown provided by the Center. Your clothes will be placed into a secure locker until you are ready to be discharged.
After your procedure is completed, you will be taken into the recovery area until you are ready to go home.
The average stay after ambulatory surgery is 1-2 hours after completion of the procedure, depending on the extent of the surgery and the type of anesthesia used. You should make arrangements accordingly for a responsible person to pick you up, as well as you will not be allowed to drive yourself home.
After your procedure, coffee, juice, soda, and crackers are provided for patients in the facility. Please do not bring food items from home.
Also, please do not bring children who cannot be left unsupervised during your procedure.
Surgery for Children Children are encouraged to bring a favorite toy or blanket with them. Parents are required to stay with their child while in the preoperative and postoperative areas. It will be necessary for parents to remain in the building while the procedure is in progress.
After your Discharge from the Surgery Center
You will be given specific instructions from your doctor regarding your care upon discharge from Quail Surgical & Pain Management Center.
For your comfort and safety, we remind you of the following:
- Have someone stay with you for the first 24 hours following surgery.
- Take it easy until your physician says you can return to your normal routine.
- It is natural to experience some discomfort in the area of your procedure. You may also experience some drowsiness or dizziness depending on the type of anesthesia you receive, or the amount of pain medication you are taking at home.
- Follow your physician's instructions regarding diet, rest, and medication.
- Do not drive a car, drink alcohol, make legal decisions, operate heavy machinery or power tools for 24 hours after receiving general anesthesia or intravenous sedation or while taking pain medication.
- Contact your physician if you feel you are having problems after your discharge from the surgery center. If you cannot contact your physician, but feel your concern warrants a doctor's attention, call or go to an emergency room, which is closest to you.
- It is very important to remember that you must have someone to drive you home after your procedure.
- Taxi transportation is allowed only for patients having local anesthesia or if the patient is accompanied by an escort.
The day after your surgery someone from the surgery center staff will call you to check on how you are doing. If your surgery is on a Friday, you will be contacted on Monday.
